A Turkish serviceman was killed as the militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) detonated a homemade bomb in the Hakkari province in eastern Turkey, Trend reports on Sept. 9 referring to the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.
After the incident, Turkish Armed Forces launched local operations against the PKK in the province.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has been lasting around 40 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
