AKIPRESS.COM - New mutations of the coronavirus characteristic to British and South African variants of the infection have been identified in Almaty city, Kazakhstan, said chief state sanitary doctor of the city Zhandarbek Bekshin. New variants have higher infectivity. Compared to older variants, the new variant infectivity is 70% higher, he said. That is, this infection is more contagious, which explains why the number of new cases has surged lately in the city, he said.
He asked the citizens to take care of themselves and others reminding of ongoing vaccination campaign.
In April new shipment of vaccines is expected, he noted urging to keep wearing masks, keeping safe distance, avoid crowded places.
