Chief of Kyrgyz president's press service detained on corruption charges

AKIPRESS.COM - Chief of president's press service Nurgazy Anarkulov has been detained on suspicion of extortion of a large bribe by the Anti-Corruption Service of the State National Security Committee.
The Security Committee said today Anarkulov was detained as part of counter-corruption operation.
Anarkulov reportedly abused power and extorted a large bribe from an applicant for a high-level post in government.
Pre-trial investigation was launched into bribe extortion.
The suspect was apprehended and taken to the main investigation department of the State National Security Committee on January 30.
Anarkulov was appointed by acting President Japarov in late October.

The State National Security Committee said the cases of extortion of bribes under pretense of obtaining approval from the leadership of the country on some posts became frequent lately. "Such actions of government officials contradict to the executive order on new state personnel policy and will be suppressed to the full strength of the effective legislation regardless of held posts and merits," the Security Committee said.
