Tajikistan prepares for coronavirus vaccination

AKIPRESS.COM - Tajikistan has been included into the list of countries that requested COVID-19 vaccine through global mechanism for pooled procurement and equitable distribution of eventual COVID-19 vaccines COVAX, Khovar news agency reported. The countries that joined the program will be able to obtain coronavirus vaccines in the first half of 2021.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan has set up a technical working group comprised of national experts and representatives of international organizations for preparation for coronavirus vaccination.
The working group identified a target group that will be vaccinated against coronavirsu infection. It included 1.8 million people or 20% of country population. The group includes medical workers, teachers, citizens above 50 years and people with chronic non-communicable diseases.
The necessary amount of coronavirus vaccine doses for these groups will be provided through COVAX facility as humanitarian aid. Besides, the World Bank provided $3 million for purchase of vaccines. Additionally, some $5 million will be allocated for procurement of vaccines.
