Deputy PM recommends State Commission for Religious Affairs to work with clergymen to prevent child marriages

AKIPRESS.COM - Deputy Prime Minister Elvira Surabaldieva has recommended the State Commission for Religious Affairs to conduct outreach work among clergymen in cooperation with the Central Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan to prevent nikah (Islam marriage) rite with underage girls.
The recommendation came after a report about nikah rite performed with a 16-year-old girl in Issyk-Kul region. The information was not confirmed. Police said the girl, her custodian and the alleged spouse denied the fact of nikah rite.
