Kyrgyzstan to start issuing biometric international travel e-passports since Apr 2021

AKIPRESS.COM - New biometric international travel e-passports will be issued in Kyrgyzstan since April 2021, State Registration Service Vice Chairman Tilek Batyrkanov told a press conference today.
These passports have strong security features, he said.
"In 2015 the government has made the decision to introduce biometric e-passports. The design of passports was approved by the interdepartmental commission in 2016. The tender for passports was held in 2018. The process protracted due to lawsuits. The Supreme Court canceled the tender results in 2019," he said.
The tender was won by the German company eventually in March 2020. The contract with the German company was signed in May 2020.
"The work was carried out remotely due to COVID-19 pandemic. The design was approved in September. The specimens of the passport were received already," Tilek Batyrkanov said.
This passport is one of modern passports with enhanced security features, he added.
