U.S. Ambassador disappointed by pressure of independent media in Uzbekistan

AKIPRESS.COM - Several media outlets of Uzbekistan received warning letters from the Agency for Information and Mass Communications recently.
The media organizations were warned about "serious legal complications" for publication of materials "on the basis of unchecked information" and coverage of the situation "under influence of emotions and unilaterally."
U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Daniel Rosenblum said on Twitter he is disappointed by recent actions taken by the Agency for Information and Mass Communications to pressure independent media. Uzbekistan's ambitions reforms require a free and open press to succeed, whereas pressure of the Agency for Information and Mass Communications is not consistent with this.
