AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan may re-introduce strict quarantine restrctions due to threat of a transmission of COVID-19, Nurmat Otabekov, member of the operative team for coronavirus fight, said during a briefing at the Information and Mass Communications Agency, Kun.uz reported.
"It should be noted at first that Uzbekistan has not lifted quarantine restrictions, they were just softened. But since people misunderstood these easening of restrictions, the number of community transmitted coronavirus cases is not declining," he said.
Softening or tightening of quarantine restrictions depend upon people themselves, Nurmat Otabekov stated.
"If we do not recognize quarantine restrictions, ignore precautionary measures and will not follow recommendations of health professionals, the number of infected people with surge. We will have to demand from the national commission to tighten quarantine then," the expert said.
Uzbekistan introduced lockdown in March, which was softened in May, but was re-introduced in July due to resurgence in coronavirus cases. The country began softening quarantine restrictions since August 15.
Uzbekistan has so far registered 44,526 recoveries and 398 fatalities. The number of active cases made 3,071. 243 patients are in critical condition.
