Culture Ministry promises actions in response to destruction of rock carvings in Alay district

AKIPRESS.COM - The actions will be undertaken with regard to destruction of rock carvings in Alay district, Minister of Culture Azamat Jamankulov told AKIpress.
"We informed the local authorities and the State Inspectorate for Environmental and Technical Safety about inadmissibility of destruction of these historic stones. This area has not been included into the list of historical sites of the country, but the place is still under exploration," Minister Jamankulov said.
The Ministry of Culture awaits actions from local authorities and other line agencies, Minister Jamankulov said.
On September 14, photographer Zafer Dincer made a post on his Instagram page saying the trucks traveling to the coal field in Alay destroyed the stones with petroglyphs.
"The road is built to the coal field, posing threat of destruction to the unique petroglyphs and Lake Kok-Kol. If this process does not stop, these 3,000-4,000 year old petroglyphs may vanish in a week," the photographer said.
