AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan is preparing for the second coronavirus wave, Director of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-Being Agency and First Deputy Health Minister Bahodir Yusupaliev said in an interview with Kommersant.
The autumn and winter are seasons of other viral infections, such as flu and respiratory infections. Almost all quarantine restrictions were lifted, contacts between people are growing, schools, universities and kindergartens are reopening, he said.
Uzbekistan has passed the peak of coronavirus cases, the situation has stabilized, he added. "But this does not mean we should not expect resurgence in acute respiratory viral infections. For this reason we are enhancing preparedness for the pandemic response," Bahodir Yusupaliev added.
The First Deputy Health Minister said coronavirus has not lost potency in summer heat.
"On the contrary, Uzbekistan saw the highest number of daily cases with severe forms of coronavirus in early July-early August. The hospitals were stretched beyond capacity. I would not link behavior of the coronavirus with air temperature," the Deputy Health Minister stated.
