AKIPRESS.COM - The fact that antiviral drugs were not included into COVID-19 treatment protocols in Kyrgyzstan is widely criticized, Kyrgyz Health Ministry's senior pharmacologist Aida Zurdinova told a press briefing today.
But these drugs have not proved their effectiveness in COVID-19 treatment, she said.
"Antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine, HIV drugs lopinavir/ritonavir have not proved their effectiveness in treatment of COVID-19. These medications were used in many countries at the beginning of the epidemic, China, Italy, United States among them. In April evidence was obtained that these drugs produce little or no reduction in the mortality of hospitalized COVID-19 patients when compared to standard of care. Remdesivir, favipiravir have not proved their effectiveness either," she said.
