Kyrgyz government to introduce lockdown in case of significant deterioration of COVID-19 situation

AKIPRESS.COM - Introduction of strict lockdown, declaration of state emergency are the last resort measures the government will have to take in case of a significant deterioration of epidemiological situation, Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov said at the meeting of the nation-wide operative team for coronavirus containment on June 26.
The government is taking actions to avoid such measure, he said.
"Assistance of citizens in following all sanitary rules and requirements is necessary. Only in this case we will be able to avoid introduction of lockdown measures," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister reminded main economic activities resumed more than a month ago.
"Today we see a daily resurgence in COVID-19 cases in Bishkek, Osh, Chui and Osh regions. Around 50% of infected people do not know the source of infection. Problems persist with hospitalization of patients. Many complain that it is hard to reach 118 hotline. The ambulance service responds to calls with delays. In addition to preparation of more beds for patients in Bishkek, Chui region and Osh, more places should be arranged. In case hospitals in Bishkek are full, patients will be taken to hospitals in Chui region," the Prime Minister said.
The lockdown was in effect in some cities and districts of Kyrgyzstan from March 25 to May 10.
Kyrgyzstan today reported the highest daily spike in new COVID-19 cases of 250, bringing the total to 4,204 cases.
