Checkpoint on Issyk-Kul's border with Kazakhstan might be open soon for tourists

AKIPRESS.COM - There is only one checkpoint on the border with Kazakhstan in Issyk-Kul region, it's called Karkyra checkpoint.
Governor of the region Akylbek Osmonaliyev said this checkpoint was supposed to open April 1.
However, the checkpoint has been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"We need to be ready for anything as we removed some coronavirus restrictions in stages. We will prepare the checkpoint for possible opening within 3 days. This checkpoint will be considered a quarantine point and necessary conditions will be created for the staff there," he said.
Usually tourists from Kazakhstan driving cars passed through this checkpoint during the daytime. "I think this year the checkpoint will change its purpose since trucks can also pass through it," he said.
