President Trump offers condolences to Uzbekistan over Sardoba dam tragedy

AKIPRESS.COM - President Donald Trump sent a letter to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in which he expressed condolences over the partial collapse of the Sarodab reservoir dam, the Uzbek president's press service reported. "I want to express my condolences to you and the victims of the partial collapse of the Sardoba Reservoir Dam on May 1, 2020. It was devastating to see the images of flooded homes, displaced people, and ruined roads and farms," President Trump said.
President Trump said he directed his Administration to ensure Uzbekistan's request for coronavirus assistance is processed rapidly.
"Through devoted personal attention and a very quick response, you demonstrated leadership. The Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development also reacted quickly to this tragedy and freed up funding for our assistance efforts," President Trump said.
One of the walls of the Sardoba reservoir dam collapsed partially on May 1. Several settlements were flooded, 70,000 people were displaced, roads and agricultural fields were destroyed.
