Kyrgyz MP suggests introducing excise duties on sugar-containing drinks

AKIPRESS.COM - A slight decrease in the excise tax was seen in Kyrgyzstan in 2020, said Deputy Economy Minister Bekbolot Aliyev at the parliament session Wednesday.
In the first four months of 2019, excise taxes amounted to 166 million soms, and for the same period in 2020 - 94 million soms, he said.
Imports of petroleum products in the first four months of 2019 amounted to 914 million soms, and 899 million soms in the same months of 2020, he said.
MP Dastan Bekeshev told about the global practice of introducing excise duties on sugar-containing drinks. According to him, the number of diabetes patients is increasing, and the World Health Organization also recommends it. Bekeshev suggested starting with a zero rate.
Aliyev said if the MP gives such an order, the Economy Ministry may start working in this direction.
