Probe against Kubanychbek Samakov resumed by Supreme Court

AKIPRESS.COM - Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan awarded an appeal to resume the criminal probe against Kubanychbek Samakov, son of ex-Kyrgyz lawmaker Karganbek Samakov, based on newly discovered circumstances of the case.
The Supreme Court also changed the detention measure against Samakov sentencing him to 3 years in penal colony.
In 2017 the father and son were found guilty of corruption: Karganbek Samakov was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while his son Kubanychbek was sentenced to 8 years in prison. In 2019 both were transferred to penal colony. They were charged with illegal land transformation.
Karganbek Samakov was accused of abusing his power for profiteering purposes and acting in collusion with his aide Abai tashtanbekov, public aide Alikbai Sariyev, his son Kubanychbek, his son's close associates, head of state guard service Janish Bakiyev, and fugitive ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev.
Former prime minister Igor Chudinov, former Vice PM Iskender Aidaraliyev and ex-Agriculture Minister Arstanbek Nogoyev were also involved in this high-profile case. They were accused of power abuse and illegal land transformation in Alamedin district of Chuy region.
