AKIPRESS.COM - Prices for some food products are seen increased in the past two weeks in Bishkek, the sellers at the Osh bazaar told Tazabek.
Prices for vegetables, flour and vegetable oil have increased. Prices of zucchini and eggplants from China have risen the most: 1 kg of zucchini costs 480 soms ($6.94), which is explained by the temporary closure of the border with China due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Fruit prices have not changed, but even dropped. For example, banana prices have fallen, and one of the sellers assume that it might be connected to the reports spreading on social media about "bananas transmitting the virus."
"But we import bananas from Ecuador," they said.
As for apples, lemons, pomegranates, their prices have not changed, because they are locally produced.
The "novel coronavirus" (nCoV) is a new virus that was first discovered in Wuhan province in China on Dec. 31. It can cause respiratory failure and be spread from person to person.
