AKIPRESS.COM - Tajikistan plans to increase gas imports from Uzbekistan this year. The countries are holding talks concerning gas supply contract, Asia-Plus reported with reference to Tajiktransgas company deputy director Shavkat Shoimzoda.
Tajikistan hopes to reach agreement on supply up to 200 million cubic meters of gas from Uzbekistan, the official said.
Last year, Tajikistan imported 140 million cubic meters of natural gas from Uzbekistan for $17.7 million.
Compared to 2018, gas imports grew 2.6 times from 55 million cubic meters.
The main consumer of the Uzbek gas is the Tajik aluminum company or other companies, Dushanbe combined heat and power plant among them.
Tajikistan resumed gas imports from Uzbekistan since April 2018 after 6-year break.
