AKIPRESS.COM - A habitat of the central Asiatic frog has been reduced today, biologist of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan Askar Davletbakov said.
Despite this, the frog is being sold in Osh bazaar of Bishkek.
"Out state structures that should protect the environment are aware of this. But, unfortunately, the frog is openly sold," he noted.
This kind of frog is listed as endangered in Kyrgyzstan.
The central Asiatic frog (Rana asiatica Bedriaga) is species of Lissamphibia in the family true frogs. These frogs are little (body length is up to 80 mm) and live mainly in noth-east of Kyrgyzstan and some areas in Kazakhstan and China. They mostly eat insects, earthworms, mollusks.
The habitat of this frog is being reduced and, therefore, it needs urgent protection, the biologist noted.
