AKIPRESS.COM - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting with Regional Director for the Central Asia Region at the World Bank Lilia Burunciuc on Dec 3, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
The parties expressed gratitude for an active position in fulfilling common goals in various areas of bilateral cooperation and discussed pressing issues of multilateral cooperation.
Turkmenistan presides over the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in 2017-2019. The social-economic and environmental issues, as well as the development of the fourth "Program for Assisting the Aral Sea Basin Countries" (ASBP-4) were discussed at the meeting.
The World Bank has expressed its readiness to participate in the development of a program to assist countries in the Aral Sea basin, which specifies the provision of international expert and advisory services and financial support in organizing regional meetings and events, as well as in preparing the Central Asian Water Strategy.
The signing ceremony of the Agreement between the World Bank and the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea on Additional Financing of the Project for the Modernization of Hydrometeorological Services in Central Asia was held within a meeting.
The ceremony was attended by the heads and employees of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, the delegation of the World, representatives of IFAS member countries and media representatives.
