AKIPRESS.COM - The ceiling has collapsed at the Bishkek kindergarten No. 31 last night, Vice Mayor Tatiana Kuznetsova said at the meeting of the permanent commission for social issues of the Bishkek local council.
Luckily, the ceiling collapsed in night hours and nobody was injured, she said.
The kindergarten continues functioning. 60 children were placed to another building, they come from very poor families, the vice mayor said.
The major repair of the building was not carried out. The building is maintained on parental contributions, Bishkek education department chief Saule Meirmanova said.
This is signal to check all schools and kindergartens, local council member Adisa Imangazieva said.
"Especially we need to check the buildings erected in 1960-s. We were lucky the ceiling collapsed in night hours. The priority attention should be paid to children's institutions during the check. The repair should be done in summer. All money should be allocated," the local council member stressed.
The kindergarten No. 1 has been functioning since 1952. It is a standard 2-floor building having centralized heating, drainage and water supply. The building is designed for 140 children, but more than 350 children attend the kindergarten in fact.
