AKIPRESS.COM - Ex-President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva commented on the scandal that erupted around the naked performance of women as part of the 1st Feminnale of Contemporary Art international exhibition at the Gapart Aitiev Museum of Fine Arts.
Minister of Culture Azamat Jamankulov signed resignation of Mira Jangaracheva following the scandal. Jangaracheva said the Minister asked her to resign. She blamed Kyrk-Choro organization for this scandal.
"People who stand for our traditional customs and values were outraged online. Young Minister got intimidated. They told the Director of the Museum Mira Jangaracheva to leave her post instead of clearing things out and making conclusions. You should stop there, you might have administrative power, but you should also take into account the public voice and women's solidarity. The exhibition is devoted to the problems of women within the global week against violence against women. What have the Culture Ministry and the government done for solving this problem?! Do women have to endure beatings to death, growth in the number of pedophiles, marriage on girls aged 13-15, polygamy of men?" said Roza Otunbayeva.
According to Otunbayeva, the exhibition is educational, and all those who live in 14 of our crisis centers must be brought to the exhibition.
"Calm down, everyone. We should all think about how to address this problem. The global week against violence against women is not decorative, it will hopefully change our approach to women and their problems. This is the strength of the art. Why would we need exhibitions for the sake of exhibitions, dead museums? We, the women, are stable in our opinions and are ready for changes in the country for the better," she added.
