AKIPRESS.COM - The obesity index in Kyrgyzstan increased by 15%, according to the FAO reports "The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2019". The obesity is increasing a risk of preventable diseases, as heart diseases, diabetes, some types of cancer and etc.
"Bad eating habits and diet are the main risk factors for this type of diseases, which cause 70% of all deaths in the world. The total economic value of these diseases in Kyrgyzstan reaches 3.9% of the country's annual GDP," the statement said.
FAO and Institute of State Policy and Management held a seminar "Collecting data and assistance of interested countries in the role of diet and food systems in preventing obesity and preventable diseases in Kyrgyzstan".
The initiative was aimed at the assisting the country in the development of the policy to resolve the current issues on the basis of best understanding of the root causes of obesity, overweight and diseases related to the nutrition in Kyrgyzstan.
