Belarus calls on SCO countries to hold regular meetings on nuclear safety

AKIPRESS.COM - Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas suggested to hold regular meetings on nuclear safety in his contribution at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states on November 2 in Tashkent, CA-News reports. "The time has come to think about establishment of a mechanism under SCO auspices for regular meetings on atomic energy and nuclear safety," Sergei Rumas said.
He reminded Belarus actively cooperates in strengthening nuclear safety and peaceful use of atomic energy.
Belarus has an observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organizations.
Uzbekistan and Russia plan to sign the contract for construction of the atomic power plant in Uzbekistan before the end of the year. Construction is expected to start in early 2020.
