AKIPRESS.COM - Ex-Deputy Chief of Staff of President's Office Ikramjan Ilmiyanov is sentenced to 7 years in prison for fraud, the October district court of Bishkek ruled on Oct 30.
According the investigators, leadership of a Belarusian firm handed $150,000 to Ilmiyanov in exchange for termination of a probe against that firm and removing the arrest from the 12 BelAZ cargo cars, which were later withdrawn from the territory of Kyrgyzstan. The fraud victim is citizen of Belarus Nikolai Gramovich. Ilmiyanov was detained on October 20, 2018.
In his final words, Ilmiyanov denied any wrongdoing, called the accusations false, and said he does not know all of the witnesses except for Chynybek Anarbek uulu. He said Chynybek Anarbek uulu was an employee at the President's Office and they worked together in the SDPK headquarters, but he was not his assistant.
Earlier, the public prosecutor asked the presiding judge Damirbek Nazarov to sentence Ilmiyanov to 7.6 years in prison and fine him for 1,800 estimated indicators.
The judge also obliged Ilmiyanov to pay 10,000 soms in damages to Gramovich, confiscated Ilmiyanov and his relatives' property in Batken and Bishkek, including cars and land plots.
Ilmiyanov was a close associate of former president Almazbek Atambayev.
