AKIPRESS.COM - Four people are suspected of illegal handling of radioactive uranium in Kyzylorda region of Kazakhstan, the National Security Committe of the country said. Four men were detained on October 23 while attempting to sell more than 240 kg of uranium concentrate on the territory of the region.
According to the specialists of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, the seized uranium concentrate is a dangerous substance, the radiation level of which exceeds the norm and poses a serious risk for the environment and health of the population.
According to the investigation, the radioactive substance was stolen by criminals in one of the plant on development of vanadium ores. Other details of the case are not reported in the interests of the pre-trial investigation.
