Activist raising unemployment problem in Zhanaozen sentenced to 5 years in prison

AKIPRESS.COM - Activist Erzhan Elshibayev on October 17 was sentenced to 5 years in prison for organization of a protest over unemployment in the city of Zhanaozen, Vlast.kz reports.
The during the trial, supporters of the activists expressed dissatisfaction over the verdict.
Elshibayev denied accusations claiming that he is being prosecuted for citizen activism.
In February and March 2019, Elshibayev was one of the protesters, who rallied in Zhanaozen and demanded jobs.
