AKIPRESS.COM - Former Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Kuandyk Bishimbayev accused of corruption was released from prison, court told Sputnik Kazakhstan. "We considered and satisfied the petition on release of Bishimbayev. The decision on early release came into force. At a moment, whether he was released or not can be answered in the prison," the Abai district court of Shymkent said.
In 2016, the first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev declared that the ex-Minister Bishimbayev is being prosecuted. Then he was detained on January 10, 2019 on suspicion of bribery. On January 13, he was arrested.
In March 2018, Bishimbayev was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was found guilty of corruption and embezzlement of state funds.
According to the investigation, he organized a criminal scheme to steal money allocated for the plant through the Orda Glass LLC company and its sub-contract company Shymkenthimmontazh LLP.
In May 2018, the appeal court of Nur-Sultan upheld the verdict.
