MP says preferential rates for customs clearance of imported cars should be prolonged as 'people panic'

AKIPRESS.COM - MP Taabaldy Tillayev asked the government about negotiations on the expiration of preferential rates for customs clearance of imported cars.
The end of preferential rates is from 1 January 2020, after which the customs duties on imported cars will grow about 10 times.
Economy Minister Sanjar Mukanbetov said the government has a possibility to appeal to the Eurasian Economic Commission to extend the period of preferential rates, but the Eurasian Economic Union is a single market and each member maintains its auto fleet.
MP Tillayev said that the preferential rates must be prolonged. "Only 2 months left until the end of preferential terms and people are panicking, trying to import more cars, but there is a risk like two years ago when people bought a lot of cars and their prices dropped," he said.
The preferential rates must be prolonged for at least a year, which will allow to renew the car fleet, the MP believes.
