Mining engineer says Kumtor must conduct underground mining

AKIPRESS.COM - Kumtor must conduct underground mining, said member of the board of the Association of Miners and Geologists of Kyrgyzstan, mining engineer Yuriy Dostovalov.
Initial agreement on the Kumtor was first to develop the quarry, and then secondly to conduct underground mining as a must-have priority.
Costs of development of the quarry and underground mining are different.
"It seems like they don't want to conduct underground mining, but the association believes that it's a wrong attitude," he said. "Otherwise, if they won't do underground mining, Kyrgyzstan will end up having nothing when they go," he said.
