Journalist compensated for illegal verdict on defamation in Kazakhstan for first time

AKIPRESS.COM - The Petropavlovsk city court in Kazakhstan satisfied the lawsuit of editor in chief of a Kvartal newspaper Elena Kuznetsova on compensation of a moral damage for illegal verdict, Vlast.kz reported. The journalist will be paid 700,000 tenge. According to head of the Adil Soz international freedom protection fund Tamara Kaleyeva, this is the first case in Kazakhstan, when a journalist is awarded moral damage compensation for illegal verdict.
According to the Adil Soz, journalists are often accused of defamation. But this time, the journalist won the lawsuitr and achieved the compensation for moral damage, Kaleyeva noted.
