First session of Syrian Constitutional Committee might be held in September

AKIPRESS.COM - The Syrian Constitutional Committee will be formed by September, special representative of the Russian President on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev told a briefing as a result of the first day of the 13th round of the Astana process, Sputnik Kazakhstan reports.
According to him, the first meeting of the Committee is expected to be held in September.
Lavrentiev reminded that the UN envoy did not come to the meeting in Nur-Sultan "not for objective reasons, but for feeling sick".
"He not only did not come to Kazakhstan, but also postponed the briefing, which should have been given by the Security Council," he said.
Participants held a meeting with the UN delegation, which arrived in Nur-Sultan upon completion of the work on establishing the Constitutional Committee.
"Over the past three months after the last session in Nur-Sultan, we have done a lot of work. Both with Syrian government and the office of Geir Pedersen on forming the Constitutional Committee," Lavrentiev noted.
Russia has welcomed the decision of the Syrian government, which agreed on "4+2" formula.
The 13th Syria peace talks will last for 2 days in Nur-Sultan.
