President Tokayev orders to ensure fair wages to Kazakhstanis at oil fields of country

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at a government's extended meeting on July 15 ordered the Cabinet of Ministers to ensure provision of fair salaries to the Kazakhstanis at oil fields of the country, Sputnik Kazakhstan said. The head of state noted that the government should resolve this situation completely. He addressed the Prime Minister to conduct a thorough analysis of the work conditions and wages of local and foreign workers.
Tokayev underlined that a special attention should be drown to protection of labor rights of Kazakhstanis working at oil fields.
"Protection of the national interests is a priority for all state bodies," he noted.
After a mass brawl in Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan, more than 17,000 large foreign companies fell under raid.
One of the demands of the protesters then was wage discrimination. According to the trade union of Atyrau region, a difference in wages in the oil and gas industry between local and foreign workers was very high. Foreign employees get 5 times more than the local ones.
Atyrau regional trade union members confirmed that the salaries of local workers are lower than those of foreigners. This is a violation of workers rights, they said.
