AKIPRESS.COM - On 5 July, the Pervomay district court in Bishkek acquitted former Interior Minister Moldomusa Kongantiyev. He was accused of negligence and power abuse, both charges were cleared.
Judge Mirlan Termetshikov said there was no evidence of the ex-minister's guilt, and there was no evidence of the crime. His travel ban and property arrest have been cancelled.
State prosecutor requested six years in jail and fine of 1,000 calculation indexes for Kongantiyev.
Kongantiev was suspected of having a role in April 2010 deadly uprising in Kyrgyzstan. He disappeared shortly after being reported beaten up during the early April 2010 protests that led to the ouster of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev. On April 7-8, 2010, troops loyal to Bakiyev shot into crowds of protesters killing hundreds. On 8 April 2010, Kongantiyev was shown heavily beaten up in a television report.
On April 26, 2010, Russian security forces detained Moldomusa Kongantiyev in Moscow and extradited him to Kyrgyzstan, and the interim government said Kongantiyev was under arrest and being investigated for his role in the upheaval, among other things.
Kongantiyev served as Interior Minister in 2008-2010. Criminal probe against Kongantiyev was re-opened on December 12, 2018.
