AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan and Afghanistan will sign a take-or-pay contract for supply of electricity for a term of 10 years, Minister of Energy Sherzod Khojaev told reporters.
The agreement on construction of the Surhan-Puli-Khumri power transmission line was signed in December 2017 during visit of the Afghan President to Uzbekistan. Construction started on the territory of Uzbekistan in March 2018. The 260 km-long power transmission line will allow to increase electricity exports to Afghanistan for 70%. The construction is due before the end of 2020 and is estimated to make $150 million.
The Asian Development Bank will provide a loan to Afghanistan for construction of the power transmission line.
