AKIPRESS.COM - Since the launch of the Safe City project, the number of traffic accidents in Bishkek decreased by 3.4% and the number of casualties dropped by 68.8%, and 3.8% and 37.1% respectively in Chuy region, the government said.
The number of accidents in busy traffic city roads decreased twice compared with the same period last year.
On May 15, the prime minister visited the Monitoring Center of the Main Directorate for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. He was told that 38 road intersections and 4 overpasses in Bishkek have traffic cameras.
PM Muhamedkali Abilgaziyev noted that the team of professionals achieved the successful implementation of the first phase of the Safe City project as we see decrease in the number of road accidents and violation of traffic rules.
Abilgaziyev admitted the criticism of those who receive traffic tickets for cars they do not own anymore (sold by power of attorney).
"It's justified. Those who sold they cars by power of attorney receive traffic tickets. This situation must be sold now. The Safe City is for the sake of people and their well-being," he added.
