Heads of SCO authorities on combating drug trafficking meet in Cholpon-Ata

Bishkek, Apr. 25, 2019/ Kabar /. The 9th Meeting of the Heads of the Competent Authorities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states with the authority to combat illicit drug trafficking was held in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul Oblast, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The meeting was chaired by Oleg Zapolsky, Head of the Security Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the participation of representatives from anti-drug agencies: India, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the SCO Secretariat.
The meeting participants discussed issues of the drug situation in the SCO member states, the international and regional situation in this area and the prospects for the development of international cooperation in countering illicit drug trafficking. The draft concept and plan for the anti-drug operation "Web" on the territory of the SCO member states and the draft work plan (2019-2020) were reviewed.
The member states expressed their intention to further promote cooperation in the fight against illicit drug trafficking on the basis of the SCO Anti-Drug Strategy for 2018–2023.
The leaders of the member states praised the work done by the Kyrgyz Republic during the SCO chairmanship and expressed appreciation to the Kyrgyz side for hospitality and good organization.
